Once in a while, franchising marks the beginning of a career. Such was the case for Edmonton-based Jessica Culo, who graduated from the University of Alberta in 2004 with a Bachelor of Arts (BA) in Psychology.
Culo?s entrepreneurial instincts come naturally, as her father, Brad Arth, owned a chain of eight clothing stores in Alberta. After 30 years in the business, he decided to close the stores and chart a new course, with the support of his wife Carol (see Canadian Business Franchise, March/April 2011, page 74).
The Arths moved forward with Express Employment Professionals. Culo faced a difficult decision; she could continue her post-graduate work in psychology or join her parents in their franchising venture.
