Spice Girl | Digital Scrapbooking, Scrapbook Templates, Digital ...

In my quest to become a ?better me? and raise a ?better family?, I have taken up the art of cooking. Not just any kind of cooking, but clean cooking. This is where you eliminate processed foods, trans fats, sugar, salt, and the like, and cook with ingredients that come straight from the earth. Yeah, I know. Salt does come straight from the earth, but too much of it can be downright dangerous. So, in order to cut it down, I have been experimenting with all kinds of spices.

The only trouble is, I?m short.

Ok, so what? What does that have to do with spices? You see, my spice ?rack? was above my microwave. And being I am only 5?4? and somewhat lazy when it comes to taking out the step stool, all of my spices were literally shoved into this cabinet well out of my reach. This is because I shoved them up there?because I was too lazy to get out the step stool and neatly put them back. Get it?

I didn?t realize how bad it had gotten until I went out to get some Turmeric. You see, my sister recommended this recipe to me that used Turmeric. I just had to try it, so I went out and bought a large bottle of Turmeric, just to realize that when I got home and went to ?shove? it away, there was already a bottle of Turmeric there. Yep, it seemed clear to me that it was time to get organized.

I have two drawers at hip level below my microwave that just contained non-everyday stuff. All I could think of was how great it would be to keep my spices in drawers, where they could be laid out and seen. I remember seeing this in a magazine at some point, so I went out searching for spice ?racks? for drawers. Much to my delight, we found them at Home Depot. So home I went, asking Steve to cut and trim them to fit?cleaning out the unused drawers, and starting the arduous task of cleaning out the spice ?rack?.

I can?t tell you how many doubles I found of many items. Plus, I swear some of these spices came with me when I was married. That was a long time ago?for a spice, anyway. It was liberating, freeing, and it made me downright giddy to organize my spices. After I got the ones I use everyday into the drawers, it left lots of room in the upper cabinet to put those that I don?t use everyday. I even alphabetized them! And yes, before you even scold me, I promise for now on to use the step stool to put away those rarely used spices.

Now, if I could just organize my condiments!

Journaling:
One thing that I have discovered
in my quest to become a better
cook is that an unorganized, not
to mention, inaccessible spice storage
system will just NOT do! Even
when I stepped on the step stool to look
in the cabinet over my microwave, I still
could not find anything!

The solution? Spice DRAWERS!
Who would have thunk it? But, now
there is accessibility and organization. Plus,
extra storage above for the stuff I don?t
use everyday.

P.S. I even
ALPHABETIZED them!
