NEW ORLEANS -- In Randy Moss' opinion, Randy Moss is the greatest wide receiver who has ever played the game.
One day after making his comment at the 49ers' Super Bowl XLVII Media Day at the Superdome, Moss did not back down from his statement. He further explained his stance in another session with reporters on Wednesday morning at the team hotel.

Former 49ers receiver Jerry Rice, a first-ballot inductee into the Pro Football Hall of Fame, has the statistics to support his case as the greatest of all time.
Rice had 22,895 receiving yards in his career. Moss ranks third behind Terrell Owens with 15,292 yards. Moss is second in career touchdowns with 156. Rice is the all-time leader with 197.
"Everybody is going to have their opinion," Moss said. "I do not live on numbers. I really do not. If you sit here and just said, 'Who is the greatest running back?' Statistically it is Emmitt Smith. People would say Barry Sanders, Gale Sayers or Jim Brown. (But) their numbers do not match Emmitt Smith, but people would say Emmitt Smith is the best running back."
Moss said everybody must set their own criteria for judging the best.
"You make your own judgment," he said. "You really do. I know what I think. I am not going to sit up here and tell you how to look at it and how to judge it. I think when it comes to going out there, making plays and helping the team do the things that they are able to do to win the game, I think I am the greatest receiver ever. Point blank. Next question."

Moss' declaration during his hourlong session with reporters became one of the main stories of "Media Day." And that point did not surprise Moss, who is no stranger to the limelight.
"I think that it speaks of the impact that I have made on this NFL football league," he said. "If Joe Blow would have said it, I do not know if it would have been in USA Today.
"Since Randy Moss said it, it is front of the sports page. Like I said, I just try to stay humble and do my job. That is what I am able to do. I am able to come out and try to say these things, but I do believe in my heart and my mind I am the greatest to ever do it."
