FAIRFAX, VIRGINIA, January 2, 2013 ? The City of Gloucester, Massachusetts has awarded Federal Engineering, Inc. (FE) a contract to provide technical assistance to the Fire Department which is experiencing coverage problems with its VHF radio system.
?We are experience both in-building and area-wide coverage problems with our existing radio system. This poses a risk to our firefighters which must be corrected,? indicated Eric L. Smith, Fire Chief for the City. Chief Smith continued: ?We were looking for an independent consulting firm with proven, real-world experience solving these problems. A thorough search resulted in the selection of Federal Engineering. Their reputation in the industry is impressive as is their responsiveness.?
Ronald F. Bosco, FE?s President, provided an overview: ?This program has been structured into three phases as follows:
? Phase 1 ? Evaluation and Recommendations; FE will determine the Fire Department?s needs through on-site face-to-face meetings, assess the current infrastructure via site visits, and conduct computer-based propagation analysis to determine coverage. FE will then document its findings and make appropriate recommendations to improve radio system performance.
? Phase 2 ? Procurement Support; FE will work with the Fire Department to determine the best method of procuring the required solutions. FE will assist the Fire Department in reviewing vendor proposal(s) and conducting vendor negotiations.
? Phase 3 ? Implementation Support; FE will provide implementation, optimization and system acceptance services and technical support during the installation, testing and cutover phases of communications system enhancements. FE will perform independent supervision of vendor testing to verify that the system is working as required during functional testing, coverage (indoor and outdoor) testing, acceptance testing and system cutover.
This phased approach promotes maximum flexibility and allows the Fire Department to make adjustments to the project as it evolves.?
Federal Engineering provides a wide range of design and management services in public safety and public service involving LTE as well as traditional VHF, UHF, 700 MHz, 800 MHz, 900 MHz and 4.9GHz mobile radio systems. FE also assists in the design and implementation of E911, PSAPs, ECCs, and EOCs.
