Missouri Gas Energy announced this week that it will extend its enhanced rebate program for residents in Jasper and Newton counties who buy qualified energy-efficient natural gas appliances. The program has been extended through May 1.
The program also is called the Rebuild Joplin appliance rebate and was designed to help those rebuilding after the May 22, 2011, tornado.
The rebate program began Jan. 1, 2012, and was scheduled to end Dec. 31. MGE received approval from the Missouri Public Service Commission to extend the program, which includes:
- Rebates of up to $600 for natural gas furnaces.
- Rebates of up to $400 for tankless water heaters.
- Rebates of up to $450 for a combined hydronic gas furnace and tankless water heating system.
The utility is partnering with gas furnace distributor CFM and Joplin Supply to make available additional manufacturer and retail rebates.
MGE also is providing an $800 incentive for residents who build an Energy Star-rated home through the Energy Star New Homes Program. It can be used in conjunction with The Empire District Electric Co.?s $1,200 incentive for a combined $2,000.
MGE?s Energy Star incentive doesn?t have an ending date.
?To build an Energy Star new home isn?t terribly more expensive than building any other home,? said Jason Fulp, MGE spokesman. ?You?re talking maybe a $5,000 difference, then you?ll recoup that fairly quickly and enjoy the benefits throughout the life of the home.?
